I used to watch my mother apply ventosis to my father when he had a cold and, I must admit, at first it scared me-of course I was just a child at the time. In short order, it became as natural to me as Vicks and gargling with salt water (more on those later!).
I am going to describe the process of ventosis and how it works. Be prepared to disbelieve but remember that this has been used in different cultures for thousands of years.

Gather together 5-6 small (4-6 ounces) glasses (Back in the old days, we used little jelly jars. When the jelly was gone we used them as juice glasses), several cotton balls and matches. You will probably begin with just 1 glass. When you discover that no one dies or gets burned, you will have the confidence to expand.
Have your patient lie on the floor or bed, face down, naked from the waist up.
Lick one of the cotton balls and stick the wet part to the inside bottom of a glass. Light it on fire and place the glass, open side down onto the patient. The fire on the cotton ball uses up the oxygen in the glass and creates suction. Before the cotton ball can fall onto the back of the patient, the oxygen is used up and the flame goes out. Leave the glass on the patient for about 5-6 minutes. The skin inside the glass will puff up and turn red or the color of the toxins being drawn out of the lungs.
My dad was a smoker and later in his life, the circles of skin would turn black from the tars drawn from his lungs.
After you remove the glasses, wash off the back with warm, soapy water or have the patient take a shower or bath if s/he is able.
You can repeat this process every day. Your patient will notice respiratory improvement right away.
